Small Town Mural
Large murals on the side of buildings seem to be a staple of any town, including the small towns. They are a great way to add colorful art to otherwise boring buildings. And they can also showcase the local artists. Although the artists for Oregon’s mural aren’t local, they were fairly close. Students at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO created the colorful mural. NWMSU is about a 40 minute drive.
Our small town mural is painted on the side of the medical clinic building on the square. Everyone who drives through town will see it. The mural depicts a small town parade with many similarities to our very own fall parade. The Autumn festival parade rolls through town on the main road during the fair held mid September. You will see many posts regarding the festival in the fall.
Another great small town mural is in the tiny city of Forest City, MO. Forest City is a neighboring town just a couple miles down the road from Oregon. A very talented local artist, Ashton Markt, painted the mural that shows how Forest City looked back in its glory days. Look for it in a future post!
It is great to see art being showcased in Oregon. We have many talented artists and craftsmen locally. I hope this is a trend that keeps growing and more art pops up around town. If you have any murals that you love in your town, be sure to share them with us on our Facebook page!

The Word
1 Peter 4:10-11. 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
