Grandpa and the Old Hat
Grandpa and the Old Hat
Grandpa (my dad) dressed up in his good overalls to help my husband escort our daughters to the local father daughter dance. We had met at our shop to get some quick photos before they headed out for the evening. While there, he saw the old hat sitting with the photo props and it reminded him of an old photo he has at home of his own dad holding my dad as a toddler. In that old picture, his dad was wearing overalls, a jacket and a hat like the one in this photo.
The father daughter dance has become an annual event for us. One of the neighboring communities, Mound City, MO, hosts the dance as a fundraiser for a local group. Although I wasn’t there, I will guess that my dad was not the only one in overalls. He was most likely in the minority though. Many dads where their slacks and some even a tie. The girls always pick their prettiest dress outfit and come in fixed up hair and wearing their best jewelry.
Grandpa did not wear the old hat to the dance. But it made for a good snapshot of grandpa, and a good reminder of how important those old pictures are to us.

The Word
Genesis 1:26-28. Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
